Hi Friends, i have taken some effort to collect the fish names in English, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam Languages from different sources in internet. If some of the fish names is wrong, please tell me to correct. Also if you know any of the fish names in other languages, kindly drop your comments, so that I can include it in the list. Really good info. Got to know many tamil fish names.
One suggestion though. It will be more useful if you can add images of fish next to their names.(

Hi Akila, It defenitely a good site for reference. well I want to know the right term/word for the korra meenu (Telugu) fish in english. On your site it is given as Tongue sole and google do not give the right picture of it or the term used is incorrect. Anyways, if along with the name if you could post a image it would give a better undestanding
I could also not able to get correct English name for some of the fishes. Anyhow will try to get from my telegu friends. Also will update the pictures soon...

That's a good list and nice effort. But need to add a few more names. The many main fish names are missing in the list. A lot of my friends wanted to know the difference between Bocha and Ravva fish (Telugu Names for Catla and ). Great task.

Hi Maggie, Sorry for the late reply. Trout fist in tamil means Nanneer meen, which lives in fresh water lake or river. If you got to know the other language names, kindly let me know. By the way since I am in Singapore, I am not sure where to find this fish in Chennai. You can check in any big fish supermarkets. Hope this helps you. Thanks.
Red snapper is not Korameenu in telugu. It is called Bullseye snakehead fish and it is not available in US. I got red snapper the other day and it's nasty (especially expecting korameenu taste).
