Meen Kuzhambu (Fish Gravy)


Ingredients

  • Fish - 6 pieces
  • Onion - 3 (big)
  • Tomato - 3 (chopped nicely)
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Tamarind - lemon size
  • Pepper corns - 1 tsp
  • Garlic - 8 cloves
  • Oil - 4 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Coriander leaves - few
  • Salt - as required
Method

  • Take half of the onions, tomato, cumin seeds, pepper corns, garlic and grate nicely in the grinder.
  • Soak the tamarind in hot water.
  • In a kadai, add oil, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and fry well.
  • When the seeds splutter add the remaining onion, garlic and cook for 3 mts.
  • Add the remainingTomato to it and saute well.
  • Now add the tamarind water to it and allow it to boil.
  • Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and allow to boil again.
  • While it is boiling, add the grinded mixture to it and boil again.
  • Add the fish pieces and add the curry leaves and coriander leaves and allow to boil again for 10 mts.
  • Serve hot for rice.
